The Scottish Shop - the place to find the perfect gift

For 25-years The Scottish Shop Dunedin has been known as a treasure trove of time-honoured Scottish classics and quality gift ware. Owner, Erin Hogan, has a real appreciation for Scottish tradition, folklore and history.

Erin and her staff understand the significance their customers place on sourcing just  the right gift, tartan or highland wear and are happy to take the time to assist customers in selecting from the extensive range of tartans, kilts and quality fabrics in store and they are happy to source items from select suppliers in Scotland.

Erin Hogan - Owner

Erin Hogan - Owner In need an new challenge and direction in her life, Erin purchased The Scottish Shop in 2000. With a strong background in business in Dunedin, especially in the tourism and hospitality area, she relished the prospect of a well-established shop with its Celtic connections. Descending from a strong Irish family, she initially found it a challenge to learn the ways of tartans, bagpipes, clans and history of Scotland.

The store was introduced to Dunedin in 1986 and has become known to Celtic and Scottish clients from New Zealand and overseas. The Scottish Shop allows Erin to  indulge her love of connecting with tourists and locals alike.

A further passion is travel and the challenge of sourcing new and interesting products for The Scottish Shop means Erin is able to visit Scottish and International Trade Shows to find quality, specialty products.

Due to demand and Erin's own heritage The Scottish Shop has recently expanded into the Celtic world by introducing products from Ireland and Wales.

Dunedin is Erin's home and the home of her family so, she says, "it is important to me that I promote this fine city and encourage visitors to return to see us again"!

Kaye Foster

Kaye Foster Having worked at The Scottish Shop since November 2000, Kaye was a customer long before that. She has always had a love of Scotland and all things Scottish, passed on to her by her Scottish grandmother. Kaye's ancestors were among the first settlers to arrive in Dunedin on the Phillip Laing and so her family has a strong sense of identity in Dunedin.

Kaye says "Dunedin is a beautiful city and I love to share this with the many visitors to the shop. Not all visitors to the store are here to buy product – some just like to soak up the atmosphere and share their lives with us".

Kaye enjoys researching her family history and takes great pride in helping others to gain knowledge of their genealogy. With family still in Scotland, Kaye has visited there and hopes to do so again.  "I gain great satisfaction from being able to source information and products for my customers".
